Discovering Naqoura Hike
The Green South Organisation’s Gray Wolf Club for Hiking, Climbing, and Camping organized the “Discovering Naqoura Hike” on Sunday, under the patronage and participation of the Naqoura Municipality, as part of its environmental activities this year and on the occasion of the 16th Liberation Anniversary. The hike aimed to highlight the richness of Naqoura in terms of wildlife, environment, and heritage. Early in the morning, participants from various southern and Lebanese regions gathered in Tyre and headed toward Naqoura, where 28 activists and participants—friends of the Greens, individuals and associations (Nature Without Borders, the Lebanese Diving Center)—assembled before walking through parts of the Blue Line and then toward the historical Phoenician site of Umm al-Amad.
The Discovering Naqoura Hike is the second activity organized this year by the Gray Wolf Club, launched by the Green South Association in tribute to the endangered gray wolf species. Small populations of these wolves still inhabit scattered areas across Mount Hermon and the surrounding slopes, in addition to several locations along the eastern mountain range. The club’s activities aim to raise awareness about wildlife, biodiversity, and the importance of threatened species, including wolves, striped hyenas, badgers, wildcats, and others—as well as marine species such as sea turtles and the Mediterranean monk seal.
We thank the Naqoura Municipality for sponsoring this hike.
