General overview of the association
The Green Southerners Association was founded in 2013 by Dr. Hisham Younes and obtained its official registration (No. 2314) on November 13, 2014. The association is dedicated to protecting Lebanon’s natural and cultural heritage, particularly in the South. Its approach is guided by the concept of rewilding as a foundational framework for its biodiversity conservation activities. It also works to protect vital areas, natural sites, and endangered species, with a focus on collaboration with farmers, hunters, and local stakeholders, considering them essential partners in safeguarding biodiversity.
small brief
Sea turtles have navigated the oceans since the time of the dinosaurs more than 100 million years ago. Today all seven species are under threat at every life stage because of human activities, from accidental capture in fishing nets to overharvesting of eggs and widespread plastic pollution
Rewilding Lebanon
Our mission brief
Green Southerners is dedicated to protecting Lebanon’s natural and cultural heritage, with a strong focus on South Lebanon. Guided by the principle of rewilding, we strive to safeguard ecosystems, endangered species, forests, rivers, and coastal habitats. Our mission extends beyond conservation to include working hand in hand with farmers, fishermen, and local communities as true partners in preserving biodiversity. Through advocacy, scientific documentation, and legal action, we aim to promote environmental justice and secure a sustainable future for generations to come.
