Assault on Migratory Bird Flocks
Assault on Migratory Bird Flocks
23-10-2020 – Enemies of nature: The migratory flocks of common cranes did not complete their journey safely over the Tyre area, as they were subjected to heavy gunfire that lasted for nearly an hour. The shots were fired from military rifles and hunting weapons to the east and south of the city of Tyre, without any intervention from the security forces or the Lebanese Army stationed in the area to stop the offenders.
A team from Green Southerners attempted to rescue one of the injured adult cranes that fell inside the Tyre Coast Nature Reserve. However, the bird had multiple injuries across its body, and one of the wounds had nearly severed one of its legs. The organisation was in contact with the administration of the Tyre Coast Nature Reserve, and the Internal Security Forces were notified.
