Follow-up on the Stork Massacre in Rashaya Al-Wadi
Today, Saturday 27/08/3016, the Southern Greens delivered two letters to both the Mayor of Rashaya Al-Wadi, Mr. Bassam Dalal, and the President of the Union of Mount Hermon Municipalities, Sheikh Saleh Abu Mansour, regarding the massacre that took place on Thursday 25/08/2016 involving migrating storks in the outskirts of Rashaya Al-Wadi. The letters emphasized the need for investigation, pursuing the perpetrators, and taking measures to protect migrating birds and wildlife in the area. Dr. Hisham Younes, the head of the association, also made phone calls to both Mr. Dalal and Sheikh Abu Mansour. Mr. Dalal expressed his condemnation of the massacre and promised to personally follow up on the investigation and pursue the perpetrators. Sheikh Saleh Abu Mansour also expressed his condemnation of the crime and agreed to activate a hotline at the union police to report violations and pursue them immediately, while patrols monitor areas suspected of illegal activity targeting birds.
The Green Southerners will continue to follow the file with Mr. Dalal and Sheikh Abu Mansour to monitor the progress of the investigation, hold the perpetrators accountable, and implement protective measures for the birds during their passage or resting periods.
We extend our appreciation and thanks to Mr. Bassam Dalal and Sheikh Saleh Abu Mansour for their cooperation, care, and attention, as well as to activist Alaa Talayeh for closely following the case.
