Beadlet anemone
Sea Anemones – Tyre Western Shore
After the calm that followed the 2012 storm, one of Tyre’s marine treasures appeared in the Al-Jammal area on Tyre’s western shore, specifically behind the Jammal rock — the coral sea anemones (Beadlet anemone). They were seen in abundance that year after the sea and strong waves had cleared away all the waste and debris dumped by nearby restaurants and visitors. This marine animal only appears and thrives when the waters are clean and free of pollutants.
One of its remarkable traits is that if you touch it gently, it “shrinks” shyly to about a quarter of its size. However, if you persist in disturbing it and touch it more firmly, it releases a strong jet of water that can cause itching and intense skin irritation to anyone who comes in contact with the spray.
