13 February 2016 The Adloun Beach Construction Case

Fish Farm Project and Wooden Pier, 2001

This individual, vital project, which few wish to mention, was based on building a wooden pier and installing fish cages to raise species belonging to the Adloun marine ecosystem. The idea could have been developed into a public project after proper study, benefiting the people of Adloun and serving as an important developmental resource for the entire region. Adloun had historically been presented as a pioneering site for fish farming and this craft.

The project could have been implemented without harming the beach’s environment and heritage, while contributing to the growth of other agricultural and artisanal sectors. It was also possible to explore ways to develop it into an environmentally friendly marina in a suitable location based on surveys and environmental assessments, after following the proper procedures, in a manner aligned with the town’s needs.

However, the project licensing process, including monitoring, follow-up, and approval by the relevant ministries and the directorates of environment, culture, and development, was designed to consider the site’s known sensitivities for every step of the project, from approval to the start and implementation of works. The ongoing project, however, has completely bypassed these procedures, continuing in clear legal violation.
