Short-eared Owl (Asio flammeus)

The Short-eared Owl hunts both at night and during the day, especially during the season of field mice activity, making it one of the best natural controllers of these rodents. This species flies low and close to the ground before swooping down on its prey, which is mostly rodents and mice, and sometimes other small mammals and insects.

It nests on the ground and hides its nest among low vegetation, often covering it with grass and feathers.
