Municipalities
Essential partner in resource management and local sustainability planning.
The municipality is the caretaker of public space and the steward of shared natural resources. Through responsible planning and environmental oversight, it becomes a key partner in protecting biodiversity, natural habitats, and the cultural and ecological identity of the community.
Green Southerners works with municipalities in the South and other regions to support sustainability and protect biodiversity. Together, you safeguard public land, wild areas, heritage sites, traditional architecture, and wildlife. The municipality plays a central role in managing natural resources, monitoring harmful activities, and responding to violations that threaten wildlife and sensitive habitats. Through its planning authority, it shapes development in ways that preserve the landscape and prevent environmental degradation.
As with farmers and fishermen, the municipality is an essential partner in environmental advocacy. It reflects the responsibility of the local community and carries the mandate to manage public resources with transparency and accountability. Its decisions influence long term environmental health, community resilience, and the protection of cultural and natural heritage.
Green Southerners supports municipalities through technical guidance, training, field surveys, environmental guidelines, and land use planning. This work helps limit environmental violations, control harmful urban expansion, and protect fragile ecosystems. You also encourage municipalities to adopt structured plans for waste management, fire response, pollution control, and ecosystem restoration.
The organisation prepares environmental files and management plans for protected areas, including the Abbasiya Beach Reserve, the Adloun Reserve, and the Wadi Zebqine area, and assists other municipalities in developing similar frameworks. You also collaborate on projects that strengthen sustainability and protect traditional crafts within a healthy environment.
Through this partnership, municipalities become active allies in nature protection, wildlife safeguarding, community resilience, and the preservation of environmental and cultural identity across Lebanon.
